Information used for comments

When you submit a comment, WaypointHQ collects the name or nickname you provide, your comment, and your email address only if you choose to provide one.

Your email address is optional. It is used only if WaypointHQ needs to reply to you and is never published with your comment.

Comments are moderated before publication. If approved, the name or nickname you supplied and the comment itself may be shown publicly.

Why this information is used

WaypointHQ uses this information to operate a moderated engineering discussion, assess submitted comments, publish suitable contributions and, where you have supplied an email address, respond to you when appropriate.

The lawful basis relied upon for operating the moderated discussion is legitimate interests: maintaining a useful, safe and relevant discussion around WaypointHQ engineering content.

You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact WaypointHQ if you want to object or ask for your information to be removed.

How the information is protected

Submitted names and email addresses are encrypted before being stored. The encryption key is held separately from the comments database. The service is provided over HTTPS.

Cloudflare provides the infrastructure used to receive, process and store comment data on behalf of WaypointHQ.

How long information is kept

Rejected comments are automatically and permanently deleted 30 days after moderation.

Pending comments are retained while awaiting moderation. Approved comments may remain published while they continue to form part of the discussion or engineering record.

Information may be deleted earlier where it is no longer required or following an appropriate request.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights over your personal information, including rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction and objection.
